
Nine Falcons Named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Nine members of the Air Force track and field team were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes this morning, as the conference office released its annual list of award winners. The women accounted for five honorees to pace the Academy's total list of 26, while the men tied for second with four selections.
Seniors Rebecca Esselstein (astronautical engineering) and Kobi Rex (management) earned MW Scholar-Athlete honors for the fourth straight year, bringing the program's total number of four-year honorees to 12, while classmate Sierra Schepper (behavioral sciences) picked up her first selection.
The junior class was represented by Jordan McCool (economics) and Riley Vann (English), who both picked up their third MW Scholar-Athlete award. Sophomore Eric Hoff (aeronautical engineering) earned his second award, while freshmen Katie Burnham (mathematics), Hannah Durbin (political science) and Tyler Koss (undeclared) all claimed their first.
Burnham and Esselstein were two of 48 conference honorees to earn MW Scholar-Athlete honors in multiple sports, as the pair also earned selections as cross country runners.
A total of 730 student-athletes from around the Mountain West were awarded one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference office. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and have participated in varsity competition in a MW-sponsored sport.
