USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's soccer released its 2015 schedule, announced today by head coach Larry Friend. The 19-game schedule features 11 home matches, in addition to three in-state matchups that count towards the Colorado Cup.
The Falcons open the season Aug. 17 with an exhibition match at Regis. The regular season starts Aug. 21 with the Falcons hosting in-state rival Denver in a Colorado Cup match. On Sunday, Aug. 23, the Falcons take on Northern Colorado in Boulder as part of a Div. I tripleheader for the Colorado Cup.
The Colorado Cup is in its fifth year. All six Div. I soccer programs in the state of Colorado vie for the title based on points earned from wins (three points) and ties (one point). Head-to-head matches for three games count towards the title. A tripleheader featuring all six programs will take place Aug. 23 at Prentup Field in Boulder.
The Colorado Cup has also partnered with the Special Olympics in 2015 which will include a clinic in Westminster on Aug. 22. Participating kids will also have the opportunity to be escorts on the pitch for all of the games in Boulder and participate in halftime games of their own.
Air Force's non-conference slate also features home matches against Fairleigh Dickinson (Sept. 4) and Morehead State (Sept. 6) during parents weekend. Air Force also hosts Baylor (Sept. 18) and CSU Bakersfield (Sept. 20).
The Falcons have a September weekend trip to Oregon (Sept. 11) and Portland State (Sept. 13).
Air Force opens the 11-game Mountain West portion of the schedule Sept. 25 at UNLV. The Falcons host Wyoming (Oct. 2), Colorado State (Oct. 4), San Jose State (Oct. 8), San Diego State (Oct. 23), New Mexico (Oct. 25) and Colorado College (Oct. 30).
The Falcons play conference road matches at Nevada (Sept. 27), Fresno State (Oct. 11), Utah State (Oct. 16) and Boise State (Oct. 18).
The top eight teams from the 12 member soccer programs go on to the 2015 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship. The championships are held Nov. 3-7 in San Diego, Calif., with San Diego State as the host institution.
