Falcons Wrap Up First Day of Holiday Inn Invitational

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Sophomore Brooks Hardy picked up a top-five finish in the weight throw, as the Air Force track and field team wrapped up the first day of competition at the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., on Friday, Jan. 15.
Hardy, who finished fourth with a throw 57'5", was one of two top-10 finishers for the Falcons during the 22-competitor event, as senior Spencer Baldwin placed ninth with a throw of 53'5½". Junior Cydnee Reese placed within the top half of the women's field, as she finished 11th with a distance of 46'2¾".
Qualifying heats of the 60-meter dash and hurdles were also contested today, with Air Force advancing four runners. Freshmen Miguel Molas and Reece Pontious both moved into the second round of racing for the 60-meter dash, after finishing 16th (7.09) and 22nd (7.22), respectively, in qualifying. Classmate Michelle Thompson advanced in the 60-meter hurdles after matching her career-best time of 9.54 for the third straight meet (22nd), while sophomore Chip White clocked a personal-best time of 8.61 to finish 12th in the men's hurdles and advance to the next round.
Three additional Falcons – sophomore Jamiel Trimble (60-meter hurdles), junior Zach Johnson (60-meter dash), senior Joey Wilkin (60-meter hurdles) – will also compete in those events tomorrow, as the trio earned byes into the second round.
Air Force returns to the Bob Devaney Sports Center tomorrow (Jan. 16) at noon for the second day of action at the Holiday Inn Invitational.
