Jamiel Trimble Headlines Falcons' Day at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – Sophomore Jamiel Trimble clocked the fifth-fastest hurdles time in Academy history this afternoon, as the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, Jan. 16. In all, the Falcons accounted for two event titles and three runner-up finishes at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Trimble became the first Falcon in 12 years to break the eight-second barrier in the 60-meter hurdles, as he clocked a time of 7.90 to finish second – just 0.006 seconds behind the event winner. With his time of 7.90, Trimble, who earned the same placement during the qualifying heat (8.02), moved into fifth on the program's all-time list and equaled a Sophomore Class Record that was initially set in 1986.
The Falcons claimed two event titles on Saturday, as junior Taylor Smith and senior Dylan Bell won the high jump and pole vault, respectively. Smith matched his season-high clearance of 7'0½" to win the high jump for the third straight meet, while Bell defended his Holiday Inn Invitational title in the pole vault with a clearance of 17'3".
Bell was one of two Air Force vaulters to finish in the top-eight of the pole vault, as freshman Joe Ernst cleared 14'5½" to place seventh. In addition to Trimble's runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles, Air Force collected additional second-place finishes in the 200-meter dash and shot put. Junior Zach Johnson clocked a time of 21.82 to finish second at 200 meters, while Maier registered a throw of 52'5½" to take second in the shot put. Johnson also earned a top-10 finish in the 60-meter dash, after clocking a time of 6.91 to finish seventh.
Koss, who anchored the 4x400-meter relay of Trimble, freshman Sedacy Walden and sophomore Chip White to a fourth-place time of 3:15.59, added an individual top-10 finish in the 400-meter dash, as he finished ninth (49.20) in his season debut at that distance. Fellow sophomore Zac Petrie made his debut in the 600-meter distance, finishing seventh with a time of 1:20.82.
On the women's side, the Falcons accounted for three top-four finishes and a total of six top-10 placements. Freshman Kathryn Tomczak and senior Riley Vann finished third (12'6¼") and fourth (12'2½"), respectively, on the pole vault, while sophomore Shelley Spires earned a fourth-place finish on the high bar (5'5").
Senior Angelea Ross posted a season-best distance of 38'11¾" to finish seventh in the triple jump, while freshman Andrea Abel placed 10th with a mark of 35'7¼". With a season-best time of 58.66 in the 400-meter dash, senior Naomi Alston rounded out the Falcons' top-10 finishers (ninth).
The Falcons return to the Academy next week for the 26th-annual Air Force Invitational. The three-day meet will begin on Thursday, Jan. 21, with the heptathlon and pentathlon.
