Air Force completes first day of Hawaii Classic

Air Force completed the first day of the Hawaii Classic Friday, Nov. 4, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Falcons posted a 3-3 mark in doubles and a 1-3 singles record.
The team's lone singles win came by Meredith Laskey, who beat Greene of Hawaii Pacific, 6-4, 6-0. The Falcons lead in four other singles matches that went unfinished and will conclude on Saturday. Elizabeth Barnickel and Nadine Lieberman defeated Santo and Green of Hawaii Pacific, 6-0, in doubles while Chloe and Lily Forlini beat Shermis and Storch of Hawaii, 6-2. TJ Fumagalli and Jocelle Rudico also won in doubles, beating Hruba and Pits of Hawaii, 7-6.
"I saw some really good things with some of our doubles today. Chloe and Lily lost in the finals of the top flight in a match they battled from behind and then gave themselves a chance to win. In the second doubles flight, Nadeen and Elizabeth dominated their first match before losing to a very strong team from Hawaii Pacific in the finals," Air Force Head Coach Kim Gidley said.
"In singles, the team came out strong and played some of the best tennis to date. Lily lost the first set and was down in the second set. She battled back and won the second and then there was a rain delay. Jocelle battled back in the first set to win 7-5 and was up in the second, along with TJ and Nadeen, all waiting to close out their second sets. Meredith won her second match in straight sets. The energy and fight the team showed was great, Gidley said."
Play continues Saturday and Sunday.
