COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Five members of the Air Force volleyball team were named to the Academic All-Mountain West Team, the league office announced this afternoon (Feb. 11). The five selections are tied for the most in a single volleyball season, joining the 2007 and 2009 teams.
Senior Rebecca Bates became the eighth member of the volleyball team to earn academic all-conference honors in four straight years, as she completed her fall volleyball campaign with a team-high 3.74 GPA. Sophomore Shelley Spires claimed academic all-MW honors for the second straight year, while freshman Shanleigh Conlan, classmate Elizabeth Pennington and senior Raquel Rosas all earned their first such distinction.
A total of 567 student-athletes were named to the fall's academic all-Mountain West team. Fall sports include men's and women's cross country, football, women's soccer and volleyball.
To be eligible for the conference's academic all-conference award, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor to their athletic team.
