USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Seven members of the Air Force volleyball team have been selected to participate at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, which will be held this weekend (Feb. 19-21) at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Air Force will be represented at the tryouts by four freshmen (Julia Boswell, Sarah Hellman, Abigail Miksch, Elizabeth Pennington), two sophomores (Piper Heineck, Natalie Seitz) and one junior (Savannah Banyai). The Falcons are some of the 231 players from 88 colleges and universities that are participating in the national team tryouts.
"The National Team tryouts are a great opportunity for our players to test their mettle," Air Force coach Marc Swindle said. "They will be competing against some of the best college players in the country. More importantly, they will get to share their unique college experience with other athletes, gain new perspectives and make great friends."
In addition to the players, Air Force will also be represented on the staff, as Swindle and Keith Barnett will served as assistant coaches during the tryouts. Swindle has assisted in four of the last five U.S. National Team tryouts, while Barnett is coaching at his third straight tryout.
The tryouts, which will determine the rosters of the U.S. Women's National Team, the U.S. Collegiate National Team and the U.S. Junior National Team, will be managed by three-time Olympic gold medalist Karch Kiraly and members of the USNT staff.
USA Volleyball will be posting photos, quotes and notes on social media over the weekend, using the Twitter and Snapchat handle @USAVolleyball and hashtag #USAVTryout. Live streaming will be available, beginning at 2:00 p.m. (MT) on Friday, Feb. 19.
