Air Force Downed by New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Air Force women's basketball lost to New Mexico, 58-36, in a Mountain West contest Saturday afternoon at Wisepies Arena at the PIT. Junior Sarah Fotsch led the Falcons with seven points.
New Mexico (14-11, 7-7 MW) broke open a one point game with a 25-4 second quarter to lead 37-15 at halftime. The Lobos dominated the scoring inside, holding a 36-14 scoring advantage in the paint.
Khadijah Shumpert led New Mexico is 16 points and six rebounds.
Fotsch led the Falcons with seven points, adding two rebounds and a steal. Sophomores Sarah Cantu and Cortney Porter and senior Taylor Parker added five points. Sophomore Dee Bennett led Air Force with six rebounds and Porter had two assists. Freshman Venessannah Itugbu added two blocked shots.
Air Force had its strongest quarter in the third, out-scoring New Mexico 12-9. The Falcon defense improved in the second-half, holding the Lobos to 21 points.
Air Force returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 24, hosting Fresno State. Tip time, at Clune Arena, is 7 pm.
