Long Ball Carries Air Force Past Marist, 8-4

Air Force baseball rallied to an 8-4 win over Marist in a neutral-site game at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C. The Falcons remain unbeaten and improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2006.
Down 2-0, a two-run home run by Russell Williams tied the game up in the fifth inning. A two-run homer by Tyler Jones in the sixth put the Falcons up for good. The Falcons went on to score six runs in the sixth inning to jump ahead 8-2.
Marist scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Falcon bullpen closed out the game with three scoreless innings of relief and allowed zero earned runs over four innings.
Junior lefthander Jacob DeVries (1-0) overcame control issues early on to pick up the win. After allowing two runs off one hit in the first inning, DeVries did not allow a run or a hit over the next four innings. DeVries struck out three over five innings, while walking six.
Tucker Jacobs allowed two unearned runs in the sixth for the Falcons. Nick Biancalana tossed scoreless seventh and eighth innings and Nathan Stanford closed out with a scoreless ninth. The Falcons held Marist to just three hits on the day and have allowed just eight total in the first two games.
Air Force had 12 hits in the game. Leadoff hitter Adam Groesbeck continues his hot start, going 3-for-5 with a double and RBI. Rightfielder Spencer Draws added two doubles and two RBIs. Designated hitter Bradley Haslam and Williams had two hits each.
Marist (0-2) starting pitcher Charlie Jerla (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs in five innings pitched. Shortstop Jack Shirk had two hits for the Red Foxes.
Air Force returns to action tomorrow, taking on Davidson back at Wilson Field. First pitch is slated for 1:30 pm ET.
