ROCHESTER, N.Y. - RIT sophomore center Myles Powell scored the game-winning goal at 12:18 of overtime as the Tigers defeated Air Force, 2-1, in the Atlantic Hockey Conference semifinals from the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. RIT advances to face top-seeded Robert Morris in the championship game on Saturday, March 18.
In a scoreless first period, the Tigers outshot Air Force, 9-8, The Falcons drew first blood midway through the second period. Matt Koch's shot from the left point was knocked down and the puck slid across the top of the crease to the weak side. Freshman Evan Feno stretched out and batted the puck in for his fourth of the season at 12:03.
Air Force held the 1-0 lead until late in the third period when RIT tied the game. After a Falcon turnover in its own end, Tiger senior Andrew Miller collected the loose puck and snapped a wrister over the shoulder of Shane Starrett with 2: 47 left in the third.
In overtime, Josh Mitchell fed Powell in the right circle and his one-timer gave the Tigers the 2-1 victory.
Air Force's season ended with a 20-12-5 overall record.
