SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Air Force junior Tim Wang successfully defended his USAG title on the pommel horse this afternoon (March 26), as members of the No. 11 Air Force men's gymnastics team competed in the individual event finals of the 2016 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships. By placing within the top-six of their respective events, five Falcons combined for eight USAG All-America awards
Wang scored a 15.400 – his third-highest total of his career– to repeat as the USAG national champion on the pommel horse. Wang, who won the USAG title in the all-around last night, defeated the field of eight pommel horse finalists by 0.650 points this afternoon. His victory on the pommel horse is the fourth straight title on that event for the Falcons and the fifth in six years (James Okamoto: 2011; Nick Owen: 2013, 2014; Wang: 2015, 2016).
In addition to his victory on the pommel horse, Wang also captured runner-up honors on the parallel bars (14.300) and high bar (14.425). The junior was one of two Falcons to finish within top six on pommel horse and high bar. Sophomore Arinn Wade finished fourth on the pommel horse with a tally of 14.075, while junior Chase Cannon received the same score to finish fifth on the high bar.
Sophomore Fletcher Braunton earned runner-up honors on the still rings with a tally of 14.625, while junior Aaron Nubine rounded out the Falcons' list of USAG All-Americans, as he finished fourth on the floor exercise with a 13.850.
The championship season continues for the Falcons, who captured their seventh-straight USAG team title last night, as they travel to Palo Alto, Calif., for the 2016 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Saturday, April 2.
