WOODLAND, Calif. – After capturing two USAG event titles and leading the 11th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team to their seventh-straight team title at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships, Tim Wang was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, March 29. It is the second award of the season for Wang – and the third of his career.
Backed by team-leading marks on the floor exercise (14.850), pommel horse (15.550), still rings (14.450) and parallel bars (14.500), the junior scored a season-high 88.150 – the second-highest total in Academy history – to win the all-around on Friday, March 25. He added a career-best high bar score of 14.900 during the team finals to move into 12th on the Academy's all-time list and help the Falcons to a season-high team total of 73.500 on that event.
The native of Riverside, Calif., won the pommel horse during the individual event finals on Saturday, March 26, after collecting a score of 15.400. Wang bettered the eight-finalist field by 0.650 points to repeat as the USAG champion on that event and claim the Falcons' fifth pommel horse title in six years. In addition to the pommel horse and all-around, he also garnered USAG All-America honors on the parallel bars (14.300) and high bar (14.425) after finishing second in both events.
Wang and the Falcons travel to Palo Alto, Calif., on Saturday, April 2, for the MPSF Championships.
