Air Force Drops 9-7 Contest At Iowa

Air Force baseball dropped a 9-7 non-conference contest at Iowa Tuesday night at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City, Iowa. The Falcons snapped a five game win streak, dropping to 18-9.
The Falcons failed to hold a 6-0 lead as the Hawkeyes rallied back with a pair of big innings. A five run sixth and a four run seventh rallied Iowa (15-15) back for the win.
The Falcons plated a run in the ninth and got the game-winning run up to bat with one out, but could not finish off the rally.
Air Force had 11 hits on the day with left fielder Tyler Jones and shortstop Tyler Zabojnik hitting home runs. It was Jones' ninth home run in his last 15 games and fourth in the last five days.
Right fielder Spencer Draws and third baseman Bradley Haslam went 3-for-5 at the plate. Catcher Travis Wilkie added two hits.
The Falcons used six pitchers in the game. Freshman Matt Hargreaves made his first-career start. Hargreaves did not allow a run in three innings of work. Reliever Steven Plaskett (0-1) took the loss in relief. Tyler Mortenson, Lance Fry, Michael Rieker and Ryan Holloway also pitched in relief.
The Falcons got on the scoreboard first with runs in the third and fourth inning. Air Force scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth to go up 6-0.
Iowa rallied back with the big sixth and seventh innings. Hawkeye reliver Shane Ritter (1-0) picked up the win. Starting pitcher Calvin Mathews pitched four innings, allowing two runs. Josh Martsching picked up the save.
First baseman Tyler Peyton had three of Iowa's 11 hits.
Air Force will play one more game at Iowa tomorrow. First pitch is 6 pm CT.
