IRVINE, Calif. -- A small contingent of athletes from the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the Steve Scott Invitational this afternoon (April 30) at UC Irvine. Overall, the eight-member squad accounted for three top-10 finishes and three additional marks within the top 20.
Senior Riley Vann posted the Falcons' best finish this weekend at Anteater Stadium, as she placed sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 12'2". She was one of two members of the women's team to compete on Friday night, as sophomore Ryan Vicek finished 12th in the javelin throw (116'0").
The men were represented by a handful of competitors on Saturday, including a pair of top-10 finishers.
Freshman Sam Hinegardner placed seventh in the high jump with a clearance of 6'2¾", while classmate Sedacy Walden finished second amongst collegiate runners -- and ninth overall -- in the 400-meter dash (48.85). The Falcons also placed two in the top 16 of the pole vault, as freshman Joe Ernst and Hinegardner finished 14th (14'7¼") and 16th (14'1¼"), respectively.
The Falcons return to action next Friday (May 6), when they host the annual Air Force Twilight Invitational at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex. The meet will serve as the final tune-up before the Mountain West Championships, which begin on May 11, in Clovis, California.
