Air Force Splits Games at San Diego State

Air Force baseball split a pair of games at San Diego State in Mountain West action Friday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego, Calif. The Falcons completed a suspended game from earlier this season with an 11-7 win and lost the nightcap 4-2.
In the first game, Air Force (26-21, 10-14 MW) and San Diego State (15-33, 7-16 MW) resumed a game that was suspended March 20 due to SDSU's travel. The game began with Air Force leading 10-7 with two outs in the top of the eighth.
The Falcons plated one more run to close the game out 11-7. Air Force earned its 26th win of the season, the ninth-most in program history.
In the game, the Falcons trailed 6-3 until a seven-run fifth inning. Down one, second baseman Shaun Mize hit a grand slam to put the Falcons ahead 9-6.
Air Force had 16 hits in the game with Spencer Draws, Bradley Haslam and Nic Ready collecting three hits each. Ready also drove in three.
Senior Trent Monaghan (4-2) picked up the win with five innings pitched in the start. Sophomore Nick Biancalana allowed one run over the final four innings for the save.
San Diego State starter Brent Seeburger (0-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs in four innings. The Aztecs had 12 hits in the game. Catcher C.J. Saylor had three hits.
San Diego State led 3-0 early with two runs in the second and one in the third. The Falcons tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third.
The Aztecs scored three runs in the fifth to go up 6-3. The Falcons responded with the big seven-run inning to go up 10-6. The Aztecs scored a run in the sixth, while the Falcons put one up in the eighth.
In game two, Dominic Purpura (3-2) tossed a complete game to lift SDSU to the 4-2 win. The Aztecs plated the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to break up the 2-2 tie.
The Falcons had seven hits in the game. First baseman Russell Williams had two hits, including a double. Freshman Ethan Nichols (0-2) took the loss, pitching 4.1 innings in the start. Tyler Mortenson and Ryan Holloway pitched in relief.
The Aztecs scored two runs in the first to lead early. The Falcons scored a run in the second and tied the game in the fifth. San Diego State went ahead in the bottom of the fifth and added an insurance run in the eighth.
Haslam added four hits on day, giving him 85 for the season. That total ranks third all-time in a season at Air Force and six behind the school record of 91.
The Falcons and Aztecs will play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon, PT. The Falcons will be the home team in game one, which is a seven inning contest. Game two will be nine innings. Live stats will be available for the games (no video stream).
