Air Force Splits Saturday Doubleheader at San Diego State

Air Force baseball split a pair of games at San Diego State in Mountain West action Saturday at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego, Calif. The Falcons took game one, 5-2, and dropped game two, 8-5.
Air Force's record stands at 27-22, 11-15 MW. The Falcons reach the 27 win mark for the first time since 2002 and ties for the seventh-most in school history.
In game one, junior righthander Griffin Jax (8-2) tossed a complete game, four-hitter, allowing two unearned runs. It was Jax's fifth complete game of the season and his eight wins ranks seventh in a season at Air Force. Jax has now pitched 14 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run and lowered his season earned run average to 1.91, which currently stands as the lowest in school history.
The Falcons rallied back from a 2-1 deficit with a three-run fourth inning in the seven inning game. The Falcons had 10 hits, with catcher Travis Wilkie going 3-for-3.
Adam Groesbeck led the game off with a home run. It was the second time this year the junior led a game off with a home run.
The Aztecs (16-34, 8-18 MW) scored two runs in the second to go up 2-1. Jax would not allow SDSU to score the rest of the way.
The Falcons tied the game up when Nic Ready scored on a balk. Air Force went ahead on Spencer Draw's RBI-single that scored Tyler Zabojnik. The Falcons tacked on a third run in the fourth on an RBI-single by Wilkie.
Air Force added an insurance run in the fifth on a sac-fly RBI by Zabojnik, that scored Bradley Haslam.
San Diego State starting pitcher Harrison Pyatt (0-6) allowed five runs in four innings pitched. Andrew Brown and Denz'l Chapman had two hits each for the Aztecs.
In game two, San Diego State scored two runs in each inning that Air Force scored a run in the middle innings, building a 6-3 lead after six innings. The Falcons plated runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, only to see the Aztecs respond with two runs in each inning.
The Falcons scored runs in the seventh and eighth before SDSU scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
San Diego State scored eight runs off just four hits, as the Falcons issued 12 walks.
Brett Seeburger (2-1) pitched 5.2 innings in the start for the win. Chris Collins picked up the save. Catcher C.J. Saylor scored two runs off four walks and Chapman had two hits for the Aztecs.
Jacob DeVries (5-6) took the loss in the start for the Falcons. DeVries worked four innings, striking out four. Steven Plaskett, Lance Fry, Austin McDaniel and Gabe Martinez pitched in relief for the Falcons.
Second baseman Shaun Mize went 3-for-4 to lead the Falcon's 10-hit attack. Draws added two hits and Tyler Jones added a home run, his 17th long-ball of the season.
