COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Fourteen members of the Air Force track and field team were named Mountain West Scholar Athletes this afternoon (July 8), as the conference office released its annual list of award winners. The men accounted for eight selections to pace the Academy's total list of 38, while the women were second amongst Air Force teams with six.
Seniors Jordan McCool (3.72, economics) and Riley Vann (3.67, English) claimed Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors for the fourth time in as many years -- distinctions that brought the program's total of four-time MW Scholar-Athlete award winners to 14.
Junior Samantha Skold (3.53, biology) and sophomore Hannah Durbin (3.81, political science) each earned their second Scholar-Athlete award, while seniors Grant Hamilton (3.58, American history) and Daniel Shellhouse (3.53, humanities), sophomore Calvin Berstler (3.63, biochemistry) and freshmen Andrea Abel (3.99, undeclared), Carlyann Butz (3.91, civil engineering), Mickey Davey (3.74, economics), Gabby Evey (3.78, mechanical engineering), Noah Riley (3.50, international history), Preston Roche (3.90, biochemistry) and Parker Seale (3.72, systems engineering) all earned their first such honor.
In addition, by earning a MW Scholar-Athlete nod as a member of the Falcons' cross country team, Davey, Riley, Seale, Shellhouse and Skold are five of the 76 athletes from around to the conference to be recognized in multiple sports.
A league-record 734 student-athletes were honored with MW Scholar-Athlete distinction. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at their member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and have participated in varsity competition for a Mountain West-sponsored sport.
