The Series…
Friday's match with Houston Baptist will mark the 10th meeting between the Falcons and Huskies. Houston Baptist leads the series with four wins to the Falcons' three. The teams have been to double overtime on three occasions and have tied twice. The Huskies have won the last two meetings with Air Force at home and on the road. Air Force has outscored Houston Baptist, 16-15, in the nine-game series. The Falcons are 1-2-1 when playing at Houston.
Sunday's match up against Incarnate Word will mark the third matchup between the Falcons and Cardinals. Air Force is perfect against UIW, with victories at home and on the road. In the two-game series, the Falcons have outscored the Cardinals, 3-1.
Last Weekend…
Air Force split a pair of matches on the road and at home over the weekend. On Friday, Sept. 23, in front of a crowd of over 600, the Falcons fell at Omaha, 0-1, in a stubborn defensive battle that concluded with a late goal by Omaha to lift the Mavs to the victory. On Sunday, Sept. 25, at home, the Falcons topped Gonzaga, 4-1, to extend to a three-game home winning streak. Sophomore forward Austin Dewing logged two goals against the Bulldogs; equal to the amount of goals Gonzaga allowed in their last three games. Junior midfielder Trey Pujats marked Gonzaga's leading scorer and held him to zero shots on the match. Dewing and Pujats earned Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Air Force is Flying High…
Following a loss at Omaha and a commanding victory over Gonzaga at home, Air Force has dropped from No. 5 to No. 6 in the NSCAA NCAA Division I Men's Western region top 10 rankings; Omaha has moved to No. 5. On Sept. 14, the Falcons first broke into the polls at No. 7. In 2015 the Falcons were ranked as high as No. 6 in Sept. In 2014 they held the No. 1 spot in the western region for a week.
Air Force made a statement in the 4-1 victory over Gonzaga last weekend. The Falcons put up four goals on the Bulldogs; one point more than their last three opponents combined. Air Force is the Western Athletic Conference frontrunner in a myriad of categories to include; total goals (22), total assists (19), total points (63), points per game (7.00), assists per game (2.11) and scoring offense (2.44).
Air Force is amongst the nation's best in total goals as they are fifth in the country with 22, while Florida Gulf Coast leads the nation with 25. The Falcons' 63 total points place them at seventh most in the nation; just seven points behind national frontrunner FGCU. The Falcons are also seventh in the nation in scoring offense. In points per game, the Falcons rank eighth in the nation with an average of 7.00, while North Carolina leads the nation with 8.13.
Air Force is second in conference in both shots on goal per game (6.67) and shots per game (11.78); marks high enough for 28th and 100th in the country, respectively.
Dewing is Doing the Job...
Sophomore forward Austin Dewing has soared to new heights following a stellar performance against Gonzaga over the weekend. The Colorado Springs native was tabbed with the WAC Offensive Player of the Week honor on Sept. 26, as he led the Falcons' charge scoring as many goals as the Bulldogs had allowed in their previous two matches combined.
Dewing's four assists make him the conference frontrunner; a mark that places him at 30th in the nation. He is also first in conference, 25th in the nation, with two game winning goals. Dewing's 12 points, four goals, and 1.33 points per game average puts him atop all of the WAC footballers. He averages .44 assists per game and .44 goals per game; enough for second and third in the conference, respectively.
Dewing leads the Falcons in shots, assists, goals, game-winning goals and points. He logged his second two-goal game against Gonzaga last weekend.
