
Falcons Set to Host Air Force Collegiate Open

The Air Force track and field team wraps up the home portion of its indoor season this weekend, when it hosts the Air Force Collegiate Open on Friday, Feb. 17. The meet, which will serve as a final tune-up for the Falcons prior to next week's conference championship meet, is slated to begin with the field events at 4:00 p.m.
MEET INFORMATION
The Air Force Collegiate Open, the final home meet of the indoor season for the Falcons, is slated to begin on the field at 4:00 p.m., while the running events get underway at 5:00 p.m. (a complete schedule of events is listed below). SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
4:00 p.m.: Women's Weight Throw, followed by Men's Weight Throw, Women's Shot Put, Men's Shot Put; 4:00 p.m.: Men's Pole Vault, followed by Women's Pole Vault; 4:00 p.m.: Women's Long Jump, followed by Women's Triple Jump; 4:00 p.m.: Men's Long Jump, followed by Men's Triple Jump; 5:00 p.m.: Combined Mile Run, followed by 60-Meter Hurdles, 400-Meter Dash, 60-Meter Dash, 800-Meter Run, 200-Meter Dash, Women's 3000-Meter Run, Men's 5000-Meter Run (with the exception of the mile, 3000- and 5000-meter events, the women will compete first)
AIR FORCE IN THE RANKINGS
The women claimed its first top-40 ranking in program history, as it jumped 15 spots in the Feb. 13 edition of the USTFCCCA National Rankings to come in at No. 31.
LOOKING AT THE NATIONAL LANDSCAPE
Air Force is listed among the nation's top 10 in three of the four vertical jumping events, including a pair of rankings in the nation's top five. Kyle Pater (men's pole vault, 18'4½") and Shelley Spires (women's high jump, 6'1½") are ranked second and third, respectively, in their events, while Kathryn Tomczak is ranked ninth in the women's pole vault (13'11¾"). In addition, Jacob Bilvado holds a top-30 placement in the 5000-meter run (13:56.93, 28th).
WHAT'S ON DECK
Air Force travels to New Mexico next week for the 2017 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day meet, which is scheduled to begin with the heptathlon and pentathlon on Thursday, Feb. 23, will be held at the ABQ Convention Center in downtown Albuquerque.
