COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Following a strong championship run at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships last week, junior Jamiel Trimble and 12 members of the Air Force track and field team were honored by the conference office.
Trimble was tabbed the MW Men's Outstanding Performer of the Meet after winning the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles with Academy-record times. The junior clocked a new Mountain West all-time -- and championship-meet --record time of 20.67 during his winning run in the 200-meer dash, while posting the second-fastest 60-meter hurdles time in MW Championship history (7.74) to win that event. Trimble completed his trifecta of conference titles by clocking the fourth-fastest championship time (6.70) to win the 60-meter dash.
The junior, who has now been named the MW Performer of the Meet twice (2016 outdoors, 2017 indoors), was one of 13 Air Force athletes to earn all-conference accolades this past weekend. By placing within the top-three of their respective events, the Falcons combined for 16 all-conference awards.
Air Force accounted for multiple all-conference finishes in four events, including a sweep of the top-three spots in the weight throw.
Senior Malachi Sparling won the weight throw with an Academy-record throw of 63'10¼", while classmate Reed McGuire and junior Brooks Hardy finished second (60'1") and third (59'11¼"), respectively. The trio of medalists in the weight throw marked the fourth time in program history that Air Force has swept the top-three positions of an event at the MW Indoor Track and Field Championships (2004: 60-meter hurdles, 2012: high jump, 2015: pole vault).
Senior Zach Johnson joined Trimble on the all-MW list for two events, as he finished second in the 60-meter dash (6.73) and third in the 200-meter dash (21.18), while senior Kyle Pater and freshman Logan Grizzle led the Falcons' pole vault squad to multiple all-conference honors for the seventh time in eight years. Pater won the MW title with an Academy and Meet Record clearance of 18'6½", while Grizzle finished third with a career-best height of 16'4¾".
The men earned additional all-conference selections from senior Matt Dorsey (800-meter run, second in 1:40.02), sophomore Garrett Coalson (shot put, second at 57'5") and classmate Sam Hinegardner (high jump, third at 6'11½"), while junior Shelley Spires paced the Falcons to three all-MW awards.
Spires won the program's first indoor high jump title with a clearance of 6'0", while freshman Megan Irvine and junior Carina Gillespie finished second in the 400-meter dash (Academy record of 54.37) and mile run (Academy record of 4:32.02, adjusted for altitude), respectively.
The 16 all-MW selections are the Falcons' most indoor awards since the 2013 squad collected 18.
