
Air Force Downed at Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. – Air Force women’s basketball dropped a 73-41 contest at Wyoming (17-5, 9-2 MW) in Mountain West action Saturday afternoon at the Arena Auditorium. Freshman Kailin Davis led the Falcons with 13 points.
Wyoming took control of the game early, utilizing a 14-0 run to go up 20-4 after the first quarter. The Cowgirls held a 36-25 advantage in rebounding and out-scored the Falcons in the paint 36-14.
Davis scored 13 points on just five shot attempts. The guard/forward was able to get to the free throw line nine times, making six. Junior Dee Bennett added nine points and seven rebounds. Junior Erika Chapman and freshman Mariah Forde scored six points each. Chapman also had two blocked shots. Sophomore Venessannah Itugbu added five rebounds.
Wyoming had three players in double-figures scoring. Marleah Campbell scored 13 points off the bench. Clara Tapia scored 11 and Live Roberts added 10.
After the slow start, the Falcons played its best quarter in the second, scoring 14 points and shooting 46 percent from the field. Air Force added 23 points in the second half, after being held to 18 in the first.
“Wyoming is a very good team and they played well today,” Air Force head coach Chris Gobrecht said. “We’ve got to regroup and figure out what we need to do to be successful the rest of the season.”
Air Force returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 8, at New Mexico. Tip-off, at WisePies Arena at the PIT, is 7 pm MT.
