
Falcons Wrap up Action at Jerry Quiller Classic

BOULDER, Colo. -- Backed by one event title and 17 top-five finishes, members of the Air Force track and field team wrapped up action at the Jerry Quiller Classic this afternoon (March 18) in Boulder. The non-scoring meet, which featured teams from around the region was held at Colorado's Potts Field.
Sophomore Brandon Sanders claimed an event title for the Falcons, as he won the 400-meter dash with an outdoor debut of 47.15 -- a time just 0.01 shy of the program's top-10. He was one of two Air Force runners to finish within the top-five of that event, as freshman Michael Rhoads finished fifth with a time of 48.83.
Air Force also earned multiple top-five finishes in the 800-meter run, as well as the men's and women's triple jump. Sophomores John Quinn and Gordon Kowalkowski finished just 0.02 seconds apart in the 800-meter run, as Quinn finished fourth in 1:53.46 and Kowalkowski placed fifth in 1:54.38. Freshmen Jacob Fields and Jonathan Wyatt finished fourth (42'2¼") and fifth (41'11¼"), respectively, in the men's triple jump, while sophomore Andrea Abel (37'0¼") and freshman Lucy Zimmerman (35'2½") earned the same placements in the women's event.
The men added top-five marks in five additional events, including a runner-up finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase from junior Andrew Milliron (9:58.08). Classmate Calvin Berstler finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.14), while sophomore Mickey Davey was the top collegiate finisher and placed fourth overall in the 1500-meter run (3:59.06). Senior Jacob Romitti clocked a time of 56.24 to finish fifth in his collegiate debut of the 400-meter hurdles, while freshman Victor Osinloye earned the same placement n his debut in the discus throw (133'9½").
Freshman Swathi Samuel paced the women's contingent in Boulder, as she finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.87. Junior Giulianna Vessa placed fourth in the 1500-meter run (4:42.89), while sophomores Athena Eccher (dash: 59.99) and Michelle Thompson (hurdles: 1:05.91) finished fifth in their respective events at the 400-meter distance.
Air Force returns to action next weekend, when it begins its spring break training trip at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego. The two-day meet will begin on March 24 and be held at the SDSU Sports Deck.
