Air Force women's soccer is halfway through its 2017 Spring season. The first-half has been a strong showcase for the upcoming fall.
The Falcons started its spring on a strong note on Feb. 22 by winning the 9 vs. 9 indoor tournament up in Fort Collins, which featured host Colorado State, Denver and Northern Colorado. The Falcons made it to the semifinals and won its semifinal game 2-0 and then defeated CSU 4-1 in the championship game.
Air Force then headed to Grand Junction on March 5 for scrimmages against Utah and Colorado Mesa. The Falcons dropped a 1-0 contest in the opener against Utah, a Sweet 16 participant in last years NCAAs. Air Force rebounded to down CMU 1-0 in the second match. Brooke Rittmann scored the game-winner in the 16th with an assist by Kaitlyn Cook.
In its final match prior to Spring Break on March 19, the Falcons played Colorado, another NCAA Championship participant, to a 2-2 draw. Taylor Cobb and Rittmann netted goals for the Falcons.
In addition to the soccer competition, the Falcons have also been very active off the pitch. In conjunction with the USAFA volleyball and women's basketball teams, the women's soccer players participated in a mentor day, getting the chance to interact and mentor over 70 young girls participating. The day was both fun and rewarding for both the USAFA teams and the youngers in attendance.
Also competing and winning for the Falcons was sophomore forward Adrienne Yoder at the 59th-annual Wing Open Boxing Championships, held March 2, at Clune Arena. Yoder won her bout to earn the female championship in the 139-class.
After Spring break, the Falcons return to action April 15, hosting UCCS and CSU-Pueblo. The Falcons travel to Texas Tech on April 22 and then cap the spring season against the USAFA Alumni team on April 29 at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
