
Air Force Wins 23-9 Slugfest Friday Over UNLV

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball (13-15, 3-10 MW) defeated UNLV (11-21, 5-8 MW), 23-9, in Mountain West action Friday afternoon at Falcon Field. The Falcons had season-high's for runs and hits (24) and tied a school record with 10 doubles.
Senior left fielder Adam Groesbeck went 6-for-7 with four doubles, four runs and four RBIs. His four doubles ties a school record and his six hits ties for the second-most in a game at Air Force.
Air Force hit 10 doubles to tie a school record which dates back to 1988.
Six Falcons had multi-hit games. Tyler Zabojnik and Nic Ready had four hits. Bradley Haslam went 3-for-7 to extend his hitting streak to 32 games. Haslam homered, scored three runs and drove in three. Russell Williams also added three hits and three RBIs. Tyler Jones added two doubles, two runs and two RBIs and Ryan Robb scored three runs, drew three walks and drove in two.
Senior lefthander Jacob DeVries (3-2) turned in another strong outing in the start for the Falcons. DeVries pitched six innings, striking out seven. DeVries did not allow a run through the first six innings, as all three of his runs allowed came after he was lifted from the game in the seventh. After Joe Kincart and Will Jones followed in relief, Josh Leaser pitched the final 2.2 innings to close out the game.
Air Force scored runs in every innings they batted, building to a 12-0 lead after six innings. UNLV made things interesting with a seven-run seventh to pull to within five runs. The Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and eight in the eighth to comfortably maintain its lead.
UNLV had 16 hits on the day. Payton Squier, Michael Macove and Nick Rodriguez had three hits each. Rebel starting pitcher Alan Strong (3-3) was tagged for nine runs in three innings pitched.
"We swung the bats well today, like we always seem to do at home," Air Force head coach Mike Kazlausky said. "Adam Groesbeck just wore out the right-center gap all day and several of our guys had big days at the plate. Jacob DeVries gave us six strong innings that we needed."
Game two of the three-game series is tomorrow with first pitch at 1 pm MT.
