NEW ORLEANS – Air Force juniors Shelley Spires and Jamiel Trimble earned All-America honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this afternoon (June 12), as the USTFCCCA announced its Division I list of All-Americans. The pair nabbed Second-Team status after earning 12th-place finishes in their respective events at last week's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Spires became the first Academy jumper to ever claim All-America honors in the outdoor high jump, as she cleared 5'11½" to tie for 12th in the high jump finals. Trimble earned the same placement in the 110-meter hurdles, as he clocked a wind-aided time of 13.69 to receive All-America recognition in that event for the second-straight year.
Trimble also received Honorable Mention status in the 200-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay. Junior Robbie Anderson, freshman Terrell Bradford and senior Zach Johnson also claimed Honorable Mention honors in the 4x100-meter relay, while junior Tyler Koss, sophomore Sedacy Walden and junior Chip White received the recognition in the 4x400-meter relay. Walden added an HM honor in the 400-meter dash, while classmate Kathryn Tomczak was named Honorable Mention in the pole vault and senior Matt Dorsey earned the distinction in the 1500-meter run.
The USTFCCCA awarded more than 860 first- or second-team All-America honors from the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 7-10, while giving out another 400 Honorable Mention distinctions. Any athlete that claimed a scoring finish (a share of first through eighth) was awarded first-team status, while those placing ninth through 16th were named second-team selections and those that participated in the championship meet, but did not finish in the top 16, were named Honorable Mention.
