EUGENE, Ore. -- Air Force track and field team concluded the second day of competition at the 2017 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships this afternoon (June 8), as sophomore Kathryn Tomczak competed in the finals of the pole vault at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Tomczak, the first Air Force pole vaulter to ever earn a spot in the women's final at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, was one of the final vaulters to attempt the opening bar of 13'1½". Unfortunately, she was unable to clear that bar and was one of five vaulters to go out on the opening height.
Air Force closes out the collegiate season on Saturday (June 10), when junior Shelley Spires will take part in the high jump finals of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at 3:00 p.m. (PT).
