
Falcons Travel to East Coast for Four Matches

The Air Force volleyball team heads to the East Coast this week for four matches, including two against its service academy rivals. The Falcons will visit Navy on Wednesday, Aug. 30, before facing Army West Point, The Citadel and Columbia at the Service Academy Challenge over the Sept. 1-2 weekend.

ABOUT THE SERVICE ACADEMY CHALLENGE
There will be no live stats or video for any match at the Service Academy Challenge and, due to security restrictions at both venues, all spectators have already been selected and screened.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Navy captured the team title at its own Kristen Dickmann Invitational last weekend, defeating Akron (3-0), St Francis (3-0) and Maryland Eastern Shore (3-2). Army West Point registered a 2-1 record in its home-opening tournament against St. Francis Brooklyn (3-0), Central Michigan (2-3) and Hartford (3-0). The Citadel posted a 2-1 record at the Hampton Inn-Holly Springs Invitational, defeating North Carolina Central (3-1) and falling to Campbell (1-3) and Tennessee Tech (2-3), while Columbia will be opening its season this weekend.
SERIES HISTORY
Air Force holds winning records over all of its service academy opponents, maintaining a 12-1 record over Navy, a 9-7 advantage over Army West Point and a 3-0 mark against The Citadel. The Falcons faced both Navy and Army West Point in 2014, defeating the Midshipmen in four sets in Annapolis and falling to the Black Knights in five sets at the Service Academy Challenge. The Falcons met The Citadel last season at a tournament in Fullerton, defeating the Bulldogs by a 3-1 margin. Air Force has never face Columbia.
FALCONS PLACE TWO ON ALL-TOURNAMENT SQUAD
Piper Heineck and Elizabeth Pennington were named to the Bobcat Classic All-Tournament Team on Aug. 26, as the Falcons finished second in the overall team standings.
CONLAN MAKES HISTORY AT BOBCAT CLASSIC
With a 43-assist performance against Gonzaga on Aug. 25, Shanleigh Conlan became just the ninth player in Air Force Division I history to reach the 1000-assist mark in a career.
AIR FORCE IN SEASON OPENERS
The Falcons improved to 24-18 all-time in season openers.

WHAT'S ON DECK
After being on the road for the first two weeks of the season, Air Force opens its home schedule with the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic on Friday, Sept. 7, and Saturday, Sept. 8. The Falcons will play Liberty and Southern Utah both days, beginning with a 3:00 p.m., contest against the Flames.
