U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Head coach Doug Hill has announced the addition of two coaches, Hank Lewis and Clint Moore, to the 2017 roster.
Hank Lewis, assistant coach and goalkeepers coach, comes to the Academy from in-state neighbor, Colorado School of Mines. Lewis has coached player-of-the-year, all-conference, all-region, and all-America honorees in four different conferences, across all three NCAA divisions. From the 2006 through 2015 seasons, every major-minutes collegiate goalkeeper Lewis has worked with has held top-25 national performance rankings, often in multiple categories, for at least half of at least one season in their collegiate careers. Among those are multiple conference-goalkeeper-of-the-year, and all-conference goalkeepers in each NCAA division, all-region goalkeepers in each NCAA division, All-America goalkeepers, and national-goalkeeper-of-the week (D1).
"I could have never imagined that I would be in my dream job right here in my native Colorado," exclaimed Lewis. "My family has called Colorado home since before 1900, so I feel blessed to call USAFA my new home within my home state."
"USAFA offers the best combination I know of great soccer, elite academics, unbeatable facilities and location, a culture that demands excellence, and a community of people like no other," continued Lewis. "I intend to bring all of my energy and experience to bear in building on what is already a special program with special people."
"It is awesome to Hank Lewis on staff with us giving us that needed goal keeping coach advice," said head coach Doug Hill. "He will bring many valuable inputs into our Air Force Soccer program and a needed third coach on the road recruiting. He has a thorough soccer resume and we plan put his expertise to work right away."
Volunteer assistant coach, Clint More, joins the Academy by way of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill., where he was the assistant coach from 2015-2016.
In his tenure at Illinois Wesleyan University, Moore assisted in all aspects of managing a NCAA D3 soccer program including recruitment, student-athlete development, academic advising, travel operations, community service and engagement, and soccer camps. His efforts at IWU helped establish a culture of success ultimately producing tangible results for the program. His two seasons at IWU were spent climbing the conference ladder moving from last place in 2015 to a two-way tie for third place in the conference and a trip to the conference tournament for the first time since 2012. During the successful jump Moore was involved in coaching the defensive side, decreasing the overall goals allowed by 14 and concluded the 2016 season ranked second in goals against average and goals allowed in the conference. On the attacking side of the ball he helped guide the team to achieving increased goal scoring numbers, from under twenty goals a season to 30 (2015) and 26 (2016).
"I am looking forward to helping the program in any facet that is needed within the process," said Moore. "I always try, wherever I am, to leave the place better than I found it. My goal here will remain the same."
"As a Colorado native and having a family member who attended the academy, I had an initial understanding of what the academy represents," continued Moore. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for the cadet-athletes for competing at such a high level in academia and in athletics."
"This year we brought on Clint Moore as our volunteer coach and he brings high energy and youth to our coaching staff," explained coach Hill. "He is valuable to the program and he will provide an immense amount of help with coaching our reserve players. He is selfless with his time and commitment to our program and relates well with the players. We are grateful to have him on our staff."
