
Falcons Kick Off Air Force Invitational

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The track and field team kicked off competition at the Air Force Invitational this afternoon (Jan. 26) with two finals and several qualifying races. With just two finals on today's schedule of events, senior Brooks Hardy produced the Falcons' first points of the meet, as he registered a season-best distance of 58'6¾" to finish fifth in the weight throw.
Qualifying races were contested today for all of the sprint and hurdle events, with the Falcons advancing nine runners through to tomorrow.
Senior Robbie Anderson registered the eighth-fastest 200-meter time in Academy history, as he clocked a career-best 21.57 to finish third in the 28-runner qualifier and advance to tomorrow's finals. He was one of three Falcons to earn a spot in the finals, as senior Chip White (50.17) and sophomore Megan Irvine (58.11) finished eighth in their respective races to advance in the men's and women's 400-meter dash.
In addition to his finish in the 200-meter dash, Anderson also qualified for the semifinals of the 60-meter dash, as he finished fourth with a personal-best time of 6.86. The senior will be joined in the second-round race by classmate Trent Holmes, who finished seventh in the qualifier with a time of 6.97. Juniors Micah Fontaine (seventh, 8.12), Davis Collins (12th, 8.26) and Keith Batista (15th, 8.36) all advanced to the semifinals of the men's 60-meter hurdles, while freshman Devyn Jones (12th, 9.07) and sophomore Ashley Cameron (15th, 9.21) advanced to the second-round of the women's race.
Two non-scoring, B-Flight events also took place today, with Air Force earning first-place finishes in both. Freshman Justin Harmon, classmate Mitch Lipe and sophomore Logan Grizzle posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 15-competitor pole vault, with matching clearances of 16'0¾", while freshman Hannah Nance won the high jump with a clearance of 5'5" and sophomore Heidi Borgerding finished fifth with a height of 5'3".
The Falcons return to the Cadet Field House tomorrow (Jan. 27) for the second day of action at the Air Force Invitational. The competition gets underway at 11:30 a.m., with the finals of the men's shot put, women's pole vault, and men's high jump.
