
Women's Swimming & Diving Conclude Day One in Texas

The swimmers sit in third place at the Rice Invite with 194 points
HOUSTON, Texas – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team concluded day one at both the Rice Invitational, as well as the Houston Diving Invitational, Friday evening, Oct. 12. After the first day of action, the swimmers sit in third place at the Rice Invite with 194 team points.
The Falcons competed in five swimming events, two relays and three individual swims, while the divers completed the 1 and 3-meter dives. After the first five events, host Rice leads the meet with 329 points, while Houston is in second with 243, and Incarnate Word sits behind Air Force in fourth with 171.
Air Force's best race of the day came in the 50 freestyle sprint, as the Falcons had three top 10 finishes, including a runner up from junior Lydia Knutson, who clocked in with a blazing 23.59. Senior Esther Min placed fourth with a 24.43, while sophomore Sadie Wilson, in her return to Texas, finished 10th with a 24.68.
In the two relays, the 400 medley and 800 free, the Falcons had three top 10 placements. In the medley, Air Force took both fourth and tenth, while their squad placed sixth in the 800 free.
The Falcons had another top 10 finish, this one in the 200 IM, as junior Heidi Schellin took seventh with a time of 2:10.20, while senior Emma Strom was the next top placer, taking 11th with a 2:10.90. Finally, the Blue and Silver's top finisher in the 500 free was senior Elisabeth Brechbuhl, who placed 16th with a 5:11.82.
Over on Houston's campus, the divers put in an excellent day on the boards on both the 1 and 3-meter. In the 3-meter, all four divers finished in the top 10, led by freshman Krystal Irwin who took second with a 241.05. Junior's Kayla Wofford and Eve Fowler finished just behind in third (236.45) and fourth (228.60), respectively, while sophomore Emily Munn took 10th with a 198.30.
In the 1-meter, Irwin was once again the top finisher, taking fifth with a 217.30. Fowler placed seventh with a 205.00, while Wofford and Munn took 11th and 12th, respectively.
Day two of both the Rice Invite and Houston Diving Invite continue tomorrow, Oct. 13. The swimming events will have Session II starting at 9 a.m. MT, followed by Session III at 2 p.m. MT, while the divers will compete in the platform starting at 10 a.m. MT.
