
Falcons battle back to defeat No. 15 Pomona Pitzer

Air Force split a pair of games on day two of the MPSF Tournament
PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Air Force water polo team split a pair of games on the second day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament, Saturday, Oct. 13, in Palo Alto, Calif. After a 13-12 loss to No. 7 UC Davis, the Falcons defeated No. 15 Pomona Pitzer, 14-11.
In the day's first game, the Falcons nearly upset seventh-ranked UC Davis, but the Aggies came from behind for a 13-12 win. The Aggies led 3-1 after one quarter and 9-6 at the half. Air Force trailed, 5-2, midway through the second quarter, but the Ryan Dorris scored twice and Luke Andres added one as the Falcons trailed 9-6 at the half.
The Falcons used a big third quarter to take a 10-9 lead in the third. Mike Miller, Reagan Pittman and Justin Harrison scored in the third to tie the game at 8-8. Goals by Campbell Harris and Andres gave the Falcons a 10-9 lead late in the third. The Aggies took a 12-10 lead early in the fourth, but goals by Miller and Pittman tied the score at 12-12 with just over two minutes left. The Aggies netted the game-winner with 1:08 left in the game.
Air Force (5-11 overall), defeated 15th ranked Pomona Pitzer in the second game of the day. The teams traded goals in the first quarter with each team scoring three times. Goals by Smet, Harris and Andres in the second quarter gave the Falcons a 6-5 lead at the half. In the third quarter, back-to-back goals by Harris gave the Falcons a 9-8 lead, but the Sagehens scored the final two goals of the third for a 10-9 advantage.
The Falcons outscored the Sagehens, 5-1, in the fourth quarter for the win. After a Pomona goal, the Falcons scored five straight. Back-to-back goals by Harrison tied the game at 11-11. Andres scored the next two and then Jason Hires added an insurance goal late.
Air Force's final game in the three-day tournament will be on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 11:30 am PT. The Falcons' opponent had not yet been determined at press time.
