The men are ranked 16th and the women are receiving votes in the Oct. 16 coaches poll.
NEW ORLEANS – For the first time this season, both Air Force cross country teams are mentioned in the national conversation, as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the Oct. 16 edition of the NCAA Division I National Coaches' Poll. The women received their first national votes of the year, while the men returned to No. 16. It is the 10th time in program history that both Air Force squads are mentioned in the same USTFCCCA poll (twice in 2016 and seven times in 2017).
Tallying 13 points from the voting coaches, the women are listed fourth in the "Also Receiving Votes" category and are currently just 11 points out of the Top 30. The Falcons, who also moved up two spots to No. 6 in the Mountain Region standings, are coming off of a 10th-place finish in the 36-team White Race at the Pre-National Invitational last Saturday (Oct. 13). Air Force, which recorded the highest finish of teams not previously mentioned in the national standings and bettered a pair of nationally-ranked squads, saw senior Jaci Smith earn a top-20 finish (16th) in the 243-runner event and four of its five scoring runners finish within the top-75.
The men, who spent the first three weeks of the season at No. 16 in the USTFCCCA rankings, returned to that position after finishing sixth out of 34 teams in the Pre-National Invitational's White Race. Backed by a 15th-place finish from senior Mickey Davey, the men bettered four top-30 squads, including two that were ranked higher in the standings, and one squad that was receiving votes. Davey, classmate Trevor Siniscalchi (27th) and fellow senior Nathan Thomas (48th) placed within the top-50, while all five scoring runners finished within the top-75
Air Force returns to action on Friday, Oct. 26, when they travel to San Diego, Calif., for the annual Mountain West Championships.
