Falcons Travel to Wyoming and Colorado State for MW Matches

After spending the past month at home, Air Force heads out on the road for two contests.
After spending the past 11 matches within the friendly confines of Cadet East Gym, the Air Force volleyball team heads back out on the road this week for its first road contests of the Mountain West season. Playing on back-to-back days for the first time since mid-September, the Falcons will travel to Wyoming on Thursday, Oct. 4, before heading to Colorado State on Friday, Oct. 5.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Wyoming (10-6, 2-2) and Colorado State (11-5, 3-1) will face each other in Laramie on Tuesday night before hosting Air Force later in the week. The Cowgirls are coming off of a 0-2 weekend, suffering 3-1 road losses to Fresno State and San Diego State, while the Rams split their California road trip with a 3-1 victory over San Diego State and a 3-1 loss to Fresno State. Wyoming, which leads the Mountain West in blocking during conference contests with a 3.20 per-set average and boasts two of the top-three blockers in the league – Reed Copeland (first, 1.73), Jackie McBride (third, 1.40), also claims the league-leader in digs – Madi Fields (5.00). Colorado State's Breanna Runnels is ranked second in the conference in kills (4.47) and points (4.97), while Paulina Hougaard-Jensen is ranked second in hitting (.382).

Air Force is 6-39 against Wyoming and 1-48 against Colorado State in its all-time series with the two schools.

Two Falcons are listed among the top of the Mountain West in their respective statistical categories. Denise Ssozi is listed eighth in kills (3.33) and 10th in points (3.72), while Elizabeth Pennington is ranked ninth in the kills (3.22). As a team, Air Force is ranked first in kills (13.28) and assists (12.55), second in digs (16.64), third in opponent hitting (.168) and fifth in hitting (.215).
 
FALCONS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH 2-1 RECORD
Air Force registered a 2-1 mark during its first three Mountain West contests – marking the second-best three-match start to a conference season in the Falcons' Division I history (3-0 in 2014). In addition, the wins over San Diego State (Sept. 23) and UNLV (Sept. 28) marked the second time Air Force has ever won its first two conference matches.

Air Force returns to the Academy next week for a pair of conference contests. The Falcons will host San Jose State on Thursday, Oct. 11, before welcoming Nevada to the Cadet East Gym on Saturday, Oct. 13.
