The senior goalie now has 343 saves to break an eight year old record
Hiddink broke an eight year old record, which was set by former SDSU goal keeper Aubree Southwick, who had 338 from 2007-10. Hiddink upped her total saves to 98 on the season, as she will look for her second consecutive 100-save season in the season finale next week.
The Falcons (2-8-6, 1-6-3 MW) tried their best to keep pace with a heavy Aztec (6-9-3, 4-3-3 MW) offensive attack, as they registered 10 shots on the day to SDSU's 22. Six AF shots found their way on net, led by two from freshman Mackenzie Kimmel in her return to her hometown of San Diego.
San Diego State controlled the first 25 minutes of the first half, keeping the ball in their offensive zone for a majority of that time. Hiddink was able to make three saves, the second of which was the record breaker, to keep it scoreless.
Air Force's first shot came in the 27th minute, which led to a flurry of activity in which AF tallied five shots over the ensuing 13 minutes, but four of them were saved, while the fifth was blocked, keeping it 0-0. SDSU's offensive pressure paid off in the 41st minute, as a cross into the box found an Aztec player, and it was booted in for the goal, making it 1-0 into the half.
The second half was all Aztecs, as they scored goals in the 65th, the 67th, 74th, and 80th minutes to run away with the comfortable margin of victory.
Air Force's season concludes next Friday, Oct. 26, as they remain in Colorado Springs to take on rival Colorado College. Kickoff against the Tigers at Stewart Field is set for 3 p.m.
