Air Force men’s soccer dropped its final road contest, 0-1, against Grand Canyon
Phoenix, Ariz. - Air Force was unable to score an equalizing goal, falling to Grand Canyon, 0-1, Sunday afternoon, at Grand Canyon Stadium. The Falcons, who remain at the top of the WAC after the loss, drop to 15-3 overall with an 8-2 mark in league action.
The first and only strike of the match was scored by Jackson Jellah in the 27th minute, for his second game-winner of the week. GCU improved to 8-8 overall with a 5-4 mark in the WAC.
Junior goalkeeper Andrea Seazzu recorded a career-high eight saves in the match. Air Force tallied 12 shots on the match, led by Tucker Bone with four shots, all of which were on frame.
"It wasn't our best performance, especially in the first half," said head coach Doug Hill. "We didn't come out with the same bite that we've had all year. Overall, there were some great individual performances, but for the first time I don't think we kept the ball as much as we should have and we didn't play fast enough for that first half."
"We felt the red card on David Louthan was absolutely debatable but we had to deal with it and I think we played well with 10. We can take that experience moving forward if it ever happens again. I thought we played well in the second half and I think we can take that into our next conference match. It was a good learning experience, so we're going to wash this one off and prepare for our last game at home for Senior Day."
Air Force concludes the regular season at home against WAC heavyweight, Utah Valley, Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. MT. A win against Utah Valley would secure the regular season title and the top seed in the conference tournament. The finale will also serve as Air Force's Senior's Day. Nine senior players and two managers will be honored prior to the match at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
