Hiddink was named to the Second Team, while Osoba collected All-Newcomer accolades
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Air Force Academy women's soccer senior goalkeeper Jennifer Hiddink and freshman defender Keelyn Osoba earned All-Mountain West Conference accolades, the conference announced Monday, Oct. 29. Hiddink was named to the Second Team, while Osoba was picked to the Newcomer Team, following a vote from the conference's head coaches.
With the two selections, it marks the first time since 1999-2001 that the Falcons had multiple all-conference award winners in three consecutive seasons. Air Force had three in both 2017 and 2016.
Hiddink wraps up her stellar four year Air Force career with her second All-MW honor, as she earned First Team honors last season. The Wylie, Texas native had another outstanding year between the pipes for the Falcons, finishing with 108 saves, a goals against average of 1.16, a save percentage of .837, and a saves per game average of 6.35. She also totaled five shutouts, four of them solo. With back-to-back seasons with 100-plus saves (120 in 2017), Hiddink became the first Air Force goalie since J.J. Wolf in 2002-03 to accomplish that feat.
Her total saves, save percentage, and saves per game were all tops in the conference, while nationally her saves were 10th, saves per game 17th, and save percentage 48th. In conference play, Hiddink started all 11 matches, and played all but 11 minutes of action. In those 11 games, she allowed zero or one goals in nine of the 11, with two shutouts.
For her career, Hiddink found herself near the top of the Falcon record book in numerous categories. The veteran netminder finished second in Air Force history in career saves with 353. In addition, she is second in goals against average (1.28), third in shutouts (13), while also ranking fourth in wins (17), and GK minutes (5415).
Hiddink also officially cemented herself as one of the all-time best to play in the Mountain West Conference, as she became the all-time leader in career saves in MW Conference history with the 353 stops. The previous record of 338 had stood since 2010. On top of that, her 5.88 career saves per game average ranks second in MW annals.
Osoba was one of the key members of Air Force's fierce back line. The freshman started all but one match this season, and totaled 1,131 minutes, the most of any Air Force freshman this year. In conference play, she played 90-plus minutes in three of those matches, and helped the Falcons allow zero or one goal in nine of the 11 games, including two shutouts.
While it didn't show up in the stat sheet, Osoba often used her somersault throw-in technique to flip the field, as well as give Air Force opportunities in the offensive zone. Osoba also registered eight shots, three on net, while getting credit for an assist in the 2-2 tie against Houston, Sept. 13, despite playing the entirety of her season in the defensive zone.
Osoba's selection to the Newcomer Team marks the third-straight season Air Force has had a freshman defender named to that list, as sophomore Alex Giggie was named to it in 2017, and junior Kasey Stavig was selected to it in 2016.
The Falcons finished the season with a 2-9-6 overall record, and 1-7-3 mark in conference play. The six ties set a new team record, while tying the conference record for draws in a season. It was also tied for the second-most draws by any one team in Division I women's soccer in 2018.
