Air Force Prepares to Face Navy on Thursday

ANNAPOLIS, Md., - The Falcons (2-0-0) prepare for their second service academy matchup of the season against Navy (1-1-0) on Thursday August 20 at 7 p.m. ET/5 p.m. MT at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE MIDSHIPMEN
Air Force has faced Navy seven times, first meeting in 1997 with a 1-0 overtime win for the Falcons. The Midshipmen hold the overall winning record in a narrow 4-3 and all matches have been played in Annapolis or part of the Armed Forces Tournament in St. Louis, MO. In the most recent matchup, AF won 1-0 in 2021. Over time, Navy has outscored Air Force 8-6.
LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons (2-0-0) earned their second win of the season Sunday, defeating Creighton, 3-1, inside the Holaday Athletic Center.
Despite being outshot 21-8, Air Force capitalized on its chances with goals from Addie Doyle, Ellie McCarron and Gianna Gigliotti. Sydney Nelms made eight saves to secure the victory.
Doyle opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Creighton equalized three minutes later. McCarron restored Air Force's lead in the 32nd minute with the first goal of her career, and Gigliotti added another in the 43rd minute for her first collegiate goal.
Creighton controlled much of the second half, but the Falcons' defense held firm to preserve the 3-1 victory.
ON THE ATTACK
Air Force entered the season ready to score some goals, already recording 28 shots in two matches and 14 on goal, for seven goals. Walsh led with six shots and is followed by five attempts from Addie Doyle, four from Annika Jost, three by Clara Teigland, two from Jordan Dillingham and Mai Mateaki, along with one apiece by Sammi Kinoshita, Mai Mateaki, Kendall Rippley, Ashley Yenawine, Rian Sandhu, Ellie McCarron, and Gianna Gigliotti.
IN GOAL
Sophomore goalkeepers Trishelle Lopez and Sydney Nelms have both served in goal for one match this season. Lopez made two saves and allowed one goal against Army, while Nelms marked eight saves and one goal allowed against Creighton.
A LOOK AT NAVY
Navy holds a split record at 1-1 after shutting out Robert Morris 4-0 but then falling to Rice, 3-0. Against Robert Morris, four Mids scored with one goal off a penalty kick at the 18' mark, back-to-back goals in the 56th and 57th minutes, and one last goal to close the match at 89:40. Last season, Navy went 9-6-4 with a Patriot League mark of 2-3-4.
