Air Force men’s soccer wins their 11th match, fourth in WAC play
Riverside, Calif. - Air Force tallied three goals in its 11th win of the season against Cal-Baptist (5-7-1, 1-4-0 WAC), Sunday afternoon, in Riverside, California. The seventh-ranked Falcons improve to 11-2 on the season with a 4-1 mark in league play.
Air Force wasted no time getting back to style its winning ways, as Klint Parker was the first to light up the scoreboard via Nick Blessing's through ball in the 25th minute. Parker toe-poked his fourth goal of the season while Blessing recorded his first point of the year in the assist.
With just over 90-seconds remaining in the first half, a clear attempt that nearly became an own-goal by the Lancer's defense was assisted into the cage by freshman Tristan Trager from within the box, increasing Air Force's lead to two-nil heading into halftime. Trager was credited with his first goal of the season.
Just 10-minutes into the second half, Trager found himself in the mix yet again, assisting Austin Dewing with a close range shot for a goal. Dewing is now tied Tucker Bone for the lead of the team with seven goals.
The Lancers notched a goal in the 77th minute, but would go quietly into the conclusion of the match thereafter.
Bone led the team with four shots, two of which were on frame. The Falcons have now recorded 203 shots on the season while allowing all opponents 110-combined shots. Air Force's 33 goals this season more than triples all 13 opponents' nine combined goals. Junior goalkeeper Andrea Seazzu recorded his 11th win of the season. He recorded one save while holding the Lancers scoreless in his 73-minutes of action in goal.
"It was great to get back to our winning ways," said head coach Doug Hill. "We came out strong and had a lot of good chances on them. We probably could have put a few more in but we capitalized where we could and opened up the match. Our prolific offense and stingy defense gave our substitutions a chance to get in the game and get some valuable minutes, so we'll be looking to them to start showing more and helping us be more successful as we move into the second half of the season."
"Overall, I'm happy with the trip," Hill continued. "It would have been nice to come back with two but the guys are in a good place and I like where our mentality is moving forward."
Air Force returns to the Academy for a three-game stretch, starting off with a match against Houston Baptist, Saturday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m., for their only game of the week. The Falcons and Huskies will be meeting for the 13th time in program history. Air Force leads the series 6-4-2, with the most recent meeting ending in a 2-0 victory for Air Force at home.
