Air Force took a 9-0 lead behind a Ronald Cleveland 29 yard touchdown run and a Luke Strebel 45 yard field goal. The game was delayed for one hour and 28 minutes due to weather and when play resumed the Aztecs took the lead, 14-9, behind a pair of touchdown runs from Rashaad Penny. Arion Worthman scored for Air Force following a blocked punt to put Air Force back in front. The teams exchanged touchdowns as the Falcons took a 24-21 lead with 6:16 remaining. Penny sealed it with his third touchdown run with 5:39 left to make up the final margin. San Diego State finished with 367 total yards, including 187 rushing. Penny led the way with 128 yards and three TDs on 20 carries. Air Force finished with 253 total yards, including 220 rushing. Parker Wilson led the way with a career-best 99 yards on 20 carries.

Backup quarterback Christian Chapman hit 9-14 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 32 yards to lead the Aztecs. The two teams exchanged scores throughout the game, but San Diego State took its first lead of the game, 24-17, with a Rashaad Penny 28 yard touchdown run with 14:22 remaining in the game. The Falcons answered with Tim McVey's third touchdown run of the game to tie the score at 24-all with 11:49 left.
