TUCSON, Ariz. - Air Force Academy senior first baseman Nic Ready was named to the Collegiate Baseball News Pre-Season All-American Second Team, announced Monday, Dec. 17. Ready earns the honor after being named to the CBN All-American Third Team at the conclusion of the 2018 season, and it is the second straight year he has earned Pre-Season Second Team All-American honors.
Ready had a banner junior season where he led the Mountain West Conference with 20 home runs and 74 RBIs. Both totals rank second all-time in a season at Air Force. The Dallas, Texas, native batted .341 on the year, while also recording a team-best 30 game hitting streak and 38-game reached base streak. The junior ranked first in the MW in seven categories overall. Nationally, Ready was seventh in the country in home runs, eighth in RBIs, and tenth in both slugging (.699) and total bases (160).
The pre-season honor adds to Ready's already impressive list of college accolades, as the veteran is a three-time All-MW selection, a two-time Academic All-Conference honoree, was the 2016 MW co-Freshman of the Year, as well as a 2016 Freshman All-American, to go along with the two-times being named a Preseason All-American and his 2018 Third Team All-American honor. Ready also won the 2018 College Home Run Derby.
Ready is joined on the pre-season All-American team by two other Mountain West players, as Bryson Stott of UNLV and Casey Schmitt of San Diego State were named to the Third Team.
Air Force begins its 2019 campaign Friday, Feb. 15, when it takes on Service Academy rival Army West Point in Baton Rouge, La. First pitch at LSU's historic Alex Box Stadium is set for 11 a.m. MT.
