Air Force Grinds Out 73-65 Win Over Denver

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball defeated Denver, 73-65, in non-conference action Wednesday night at Clune Arena. Junior Caleb Morris paced four Falcons in doubles figures scoring with a season-high 16 points as the Falcons improved to 4-5 on the season.
Morris provided the Falcons with a much-needed offensive spark, connecting on three three's for the third straight game and going 5 of 5 from the free throw line.
Joining Morris in double-figures were Chris Joyce, Pervis Louder and Lavelle Scottie. Joyce scored 13 points and dished out four assists. Louder had a season-high 12 points, connecting on a pair of three's. Scottie scored 12 points and had a season-high nine rebounds. The Falcons also had a solid game from Keaton Van Soelen, who added nine points and four rebounds.
The Falcons found themselves trailing early after a six-minute scoring drought midway through the first half. Denver (2-7) went on a 10-0 run during the Falcon drought, to go up 15-7 with 9:13 to go in the half.
Air Force battled back to tie the game up right before the half. With one second left before halftime, Lavelle Scottie converted a three-point play on a made basket and free throw to put the Falcons ahead 26-23 at the half.
The Falcons never trailed the rest of the way, steadily building up their lead in the second half. Air Force got the lead up to 10 points several times before Denver made a comeback late, getting the Falcon lead down to four with 43 seconds left in the game. Air Force made 7 of 8 free throws the rest of the way out to seal the game.
After getting to the line just twice in the first half, Air Force got to the line 19 times in the second half, making 17. For the game, the Falcons shot 48 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the line.
Joe Rosga led Denver with 17 points and Joseph Lanzi added 14. The Pioneers shot 39 percent from the field and 61.5 percent from the line.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Nov. 8, hosting Army West Point. Tip-off is 2 pm MT.
