AUSTIN, Texas -- The Air Force track and field team kicked off a busy weekend of competition today (March 29) in Texas, with competitions at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos and the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin. Sophomore Sierra Rodriguez led Thursday's contingent of competitors, as she recorded career-best performances and top-10 finishes in both meets.
Rodriguez, who opened the day at the Bobcat Invitational, recorded a career-best throw of 136'8" to finish eighth out of 22 throwers in the discus. Following that meet, which saw the sophomore add one foot to her previous `best' distance in that event, Rodriguez headed to the Texas Relays, where she wrapped up the day with a personal-best throw of 138'10" in the javelin. Finishing fifth out of 16 throwers, she added more than six feet to her career-best mark -- and improved her career distance twice during the series.
Freshman Addyson Smith joined Rodriguez among the top 10 of the discus standings at Texas State, as she posted a collegiate debut of 134'11" to finish 10th in the 22-thrower field.
A top-10 mark from junior Logan Feasline paced the men to three finishes within the top-half of the 31-competitor field in the discus throw at the Bobcat Invitational. Feasline collected a seventh-place a throw of 167'4", while senior Jackson Spalding and junior Garrett Coalson finished 12th (157'3") and 13th (155'5"), respectively, in the overall standings.
Freshman Greg Skage paced the men's lineup at the Texas Relays, as he registered a career-best clearance of 16'4¾" -- an improvement of nearly six inches -- to tie for sixth in the pole vault. In the Falcons' only running event of the day, senior Chip White placed within the top half of the field in the 400-meter hurdles after posting a season-best mark of 52.11 to finish 23rd out of 83 runners.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow with competition at both the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational. In addition, the distance runners kick off action in California with runners competing at the Stanford Invitational and San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
