
Air Force Wraps up Action in California

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Backed by one first-place finish and an addition to the Academy record book, the Air Force track and field team wrapped up a busy weekend of competition in California on Saturday (April 21) with meets in Torrance and Long Beach.
Senior Chip White and freshman Hannah Nance paced a contingent of Falcons at the Beach Invitational, as he won the 400-meter hurdles and she debuted on the program's all-time high jump standings. White clocked a season-best time of 51.95 to better the 48-runner field by 0.24 seconds and capture his second hurdles title of the week, while Nance posted a career-best clearance of 5'7" to debut in fifth on the Academy's all-time list and tie for 11th in a field that included 54 other jumpers.
Senior Zac Petrie earned a top-10 finish today at Jack Rose Track, as he clocked a personal-best time of 1:51.03 to finish ninth out of 89 competitors in the 800-meter run. Two other Falcons placed within the top-half of their respective events, as sophomore Megan Irvine finished 32nd out of 90 runners in the 400-meter dash (season-best 56.85) and junior David Collins placed 22nd out of 54 athletes in the 110-meter hurdles (wind-aided 14.78).
Air Force's pole vault squad collected four finishes within the top half of their respective event fields. Sophomore Connor Stevens led the men's contingent, as he posted a career-best clearance of 17'0¾" to finish 11th out of 58 vaulters. Junior Sam Hinegardner and sophomore Chris Doerr also placed within the top half of the field, as the pair finished 24th and 28th, respectively, with matching clearances of 16'0¾". On the women's side, junior Jerni Self recorded a clearance of 12'3½" to tie for 29th out of 87 vaulters.
Hinegardner also accounted for a top-15 finish in the high jump, as he cleared 6'8¾" to tie for 13th in the 47-jumper event. Senior Jackson Spalding (24th, career-best 167'5") and junior Logan Feasline (38th, 161'4") finished within the top-half of the 89-thrower discus event, while junior Garrett Coalson recorded a season-best throw of 52'7½" to finish 30th out of 75 athletes in the shot put.
Air Force was also represented in four Invitational events at the 60th-annual Mt SAC Relays this afternoon.
Junior Kathryn Tomczak led the Academy quartet that competed against some of the nation's elite in Torrance, as she recorded a season-best clearance of 13'9¼" to finish second amongst collegiate athletes – and sixth overall – in the Invitational section of the pole vault.
Seniors Shelley Spires and Jamiel Trimble finished third in the collegiate standings – and seventh overall – in their respective Invitational events, as Spires registered a clearance of 5'10" in the high jump and Trimble clocked a time of 21.02 in the 200-meter dash. Fellow senior Tyler Koss rounded out the group, as he finished ninth amongst collegiate runners – 15th overall – in the 400-meter dash (47.28).
The Falcons return to action next weekend, when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa, for the 109th running of the prestigious Drake Relays on April 26-28.
