DES MOINES, Iowa – Freshman Maria Mettler and senior Nicole Hahn impacted the Academy record book this evening (April 26), as three members of the Air Force track and field team opened competition during the Distance Carnival of the 109th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mettler deleted nearly 20 seconds from her previous season best in the 5000-meter run, as she posted a time of 16:41.98 to move into sixth on the program's all-time list. Mettler, who improved her own Class Record by becoming the first Air Force female freshman to break the 17-minute mark in that event, finished seventh in the seeded section of tonight's race.
Competing in just the second 10,000-meter run of her collegiate career, Hahn also climbed up the program's all-time standings during tonight's competition. The senior recorded the ninth-fastest time in program history, a career-best 36:55.18, to finish seventh out of 26 runners in the night's longest race.
Senior Andrew Johnston represented the men's team in the seeded 5000-meter run this evening at Drake Stadium, as he clocked a time of 14:15.544 to finish sixth in his first 5000-meter event of the season (third collegiate).
Air Force continues action at the Drake Relays tomorrow (April 27), while the rest of the squad travels to Laramie, Wyo., for the 7220 Invitational.
