Junior Joseph Crisostomo shoots a 73 in first round of star-studded tournament
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Junior Joseph Crisostomo leads the Air Force golf team after the first day of the 13th annual Fighting Illini Invitational at the Olympia Fields Country Club, Friday, Sept. 14, in Olympia Fields, Ill. One of the premier college tournaments in the nation, the 14-team field features 10 teams ranked in the top 25, including three of the top four, and two others that are receiving votes.
Crisostomo, who started on the back nine, birdied his first two holes and shot a three-over 73 in the first round to tie for 31st. Crisostomo also paced the Falcons at last week's Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, placing sixth overall at four-under par over 54 holes.
Senior Andy Germann and junior Josh Wu each shot a 78 in the first round of the Fighting Illini Invitational, while senior Tate Tatom shot 79. Germann and Wu each had two birdies on the day.
Top-ranked Oklahoma State and No. 11 California are tied for the team lead after shooting a 273 (-7). South Carolina (receiving votes) and No. 23 UNLV are tied for third at 283 (+3). No. 2 ranked Alabama is fifth at 284 (+4). Air Force is in 14th place at 308.
Oklahoma State's Matthew Wolff leads all players after shooting a five-under 65.
The tournament continues on Saturday, Sept. 15, with the second round beginning at 8 a.m. CT. Live stats are available at Golfstat.com.
