USAF ACADEMY, Colo. — Air Force men's basketball (8-11, 3-4) rallied to overtake Boise State (8-11, 3-3) in a gritty 74-60 Mountain West win Tuesday night at Clune Arena. The Falcons came back from a 13 point deficit to earn their third-straight home win.
Down 30-17 with 4:03 to play in the first half, it looked like it could be a long night for the Falcons. But Lavelle Scottie put the Falcons on his back and helped lead a 13-0 run to tie the game up. Scottie scored eight consecutive points to start the rally, knocking down a pair of three's and a jumper. Chris Joyce sank a three to tie it up at 30-30 with 1:42 in the first. The teams would go to halftime tied at 33-33.
Boise State opened with a pair of free throws to take a two point lead to start the second half. The Falcons tied it up and then took the lead with back to back buckets from Scottie and would never trail the rest of the way out.
Boise State kept the game close, never letting the Falcons get ahead by more than six points until late in the game. Air Force got some breathing room on a clutch three by AJ Walker to put the Falcons up eight with 3:54 to go. Walker scored seven points over the final four minutes of play as the Falcons ripped off a 14-5 run to close out the game.
Scottie led the Falcons with a season-high 22 points and tied a team-high with seven rebounds. Scottie went 8 of 13 from the field and also led the Falcons with two blocked shots. Walker scored 18 points with a career-high six rebounds and four assists.
Chris Joyce gave the Falcons 12 points off the bench to go with seven rebounds. Sid Tomes had a career-high seven rebounds and Keaton Van Soelen set a career-high with four assists.
Air Force shot 54.2 percent from the field, improved to 6-2 when they shoot over 50 percent from the field. The Falcons snapped a four game losing streak to the Broncos. Their three game home win streak is the best since 2015.
Derrick Alston led Boise State with 24 points. Zach Haney added 11 points and six rebounds. Air Force held Boise State to 36.4 percent shooting from the field and out-rebounded the Broncos 41-22.
