The Falcons split its Mountain West Conference opening weekend, winning at Fresno State, 1-1, while falling at home to San Jose State, 2-1. Freshman Lexi Romero scored both goals for the Falcons. The gamer winner at Fresno was on a penalty kick. In addition, junior goalie Danielle Katz recorded her fifth shutout of the season, making three saves while facing 10 Bulldog shots.
Milestone Win at Fresno State
In the 1-0 win at Fresno State to kick off MW Conference play, Air Force earned its first win in a conference opener since 2015. The Falcons also defeated Fresno State on the road for the first time in program history in the last five tries. It also broke a four game unbeaten streak by Fresno against AF.
Best Nine-Game Start In Program History
By starting the season 6-2-1, the Falcons are off to their best nine-game start in program history, which began in 1992. Since going Division-I in 1996, Air Force's program record for wins is 11, set back in 1999. That team also set the program standard for win percentage with an 11-10 (.524) record. That was despite starting the season with an 0-4 mark.
Freshman Sensation
Freshman Lexi Romero could not have asked for a much better start to her career, as the forward leads the team with eight goals and 19 points. The eight goals and 19 points rank second in the conference, second only to reigning MW POTY Raimee Sherle, who has nine and 23, respectively. In addition, her .89 goals per game and 2.11 points per game both rank tops in the conference. She is also in the top-30 nationally in all four categories.
Sharing is Caring
On Air Force's 18 goals this season, there have been a total of 19 assists. Freshmen Emiley Benner leads the team with four. The 19 assists ranks first in the conference and 53rd in the nation, while the 2.11 assists per game also ranks first in the MW and is 30th in the NCAA.
Potent Offense
The Falcons so far have presented one of the most potent offenses in the Mountain West Conference. They currently rank second in the MW, only behind defending regular season champs Boise State, in points per game, scoring offense, total goals, and total points, while ranking third in shots per game and shots on goal per game.
