Falcons Close Out First Half of MW Season at UNLV, New Mexico

Air Force will face the Rebels (Oct. 24) and Lobos (Oct. 26) in MW road matches.
The Air Force volleyball team closes out the first half of the Mountain West season this week with road trips to UNLV and New Mexico. The Falcons will travel to Las Vegas to face the Rebels on Thursday, Oct. 24, before heading to Albuquerque to officially close out the opening round of MW play against the Lobos on Saturday, Oct. 26.

SCOUTING THE REBELS
UNLV, who will host New Mexico on Tuesday night, is currently ranked third in the conference standings with a 6-2 record and a 10-9 mark overall. The Rebels are coming off of a 2-0 weekend on the road, with victories over Nevada (3-1) and San Jose State (3-0). UNLV is ranked second in kills (13.37 kps) and third in hitting (.226) during conference play, while Mariena Hayden leads the league in per-set averages for kills (4.00), aces (0.63) and points (4.87).
SCOUTING THE LOBOS
New Mexico, which is currently 6-14 on the year, with a 1-7 record in Mountain West play, will travel to UNLV on Tuesday before hosting the Falcons. The Lobos dropped a pair of road contests last week, falling to Nevada in five and San Jose State in four. Lauren Twitty is listed among the conference's top 10 in kills (3.18 kps, ninth), while Jaclyn Inclan and Alena Moldan are ranked 10th in assists (5.70) and digs (3.33), respectively.
SERIES HISTORY
Air Force is 5-40 all-time against UNLV, but has won two of the last three, including a 3-2 win at Cox Pavilion in 2017. The Falcons are 4-38 against New Mexico, but have never faced the Lobos at Dreamstyle Arena.
KEITH EARNS WEEKLY CONFERENCE AWARD
After leading the team in kills (30) and hitting (.410) during a 2-0 weekend in conference action, Bailey Keith was selected as the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. She is the first Falcon since 2017 – and just the 12th overall – to earn a weekly award from the conference office.
FALCONS POST PERFECT 2-0 WEEKEND IN CONFERENCE PLAY
Air Force claimed a pair of victories over during Oct. 17-19, as it defeated Fresno State (25-18, 21-25, 25-16, 25-17) and San Diego State (25-13, 15-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-11) at the Academy. It is just the 10th time that the Falcons have registered a weekend sweep in conference action at the Division I level – with six of those occurrences happening within the last three years.

With their fourth Mountain West win of the season on Oct. 19, Air Force equaled its best start to a conference season ever at the Division I level. The 2019 squad, who has collected wins over Utah State, Nevada, Fresno State and San Diego State during the first eight matches of the season, matches the 1999 team that picked up wins over Wyoming, New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV during its 4-4 start to the season.
CAUTION, FALLING RECORDS!
With a 19-kill, 11-dig performance against San Diego State on Oct. 19, Denise Ssozi broke the Academy's Division I record for double doubles, as she accounted for the 30th of her career. The senior, who equaled Delavane Diaz's 2000-03 standard of 29 with 10 kills and 13 digs on Oct. 17, took over sole possession of first on the program's DI standings less than 48 hours later. For her effort, Ssozi was received Air Force's Cadet-Athlete of the Week award.
