Last Time Out
The Falcons stayed .500 in conference play with yet another 1-1 weekend, as they fell in an offensive shootout to San Diego State, 5-4, before rebounding with a commanding 3-0 win over New Mexico. Freshman Lexi Romero led the way with seven points, with three goals and an assist. The shutout was the sixth of the season for the Falcons and junior GK Danielle Katz.
Freshman Sensation
Freshman Lexi Romero could not have asked for a much better start to her career, as the forward leads the team, and MW Conference, with 13 goals and 31 points. She is also the conference leader in goals and points per game. Nationally, Romero is seventh in goals, fifth in points, and ninth in goals and points per game. In addition, she is one of two freshman in the nation with 13 or more goals, and is the only freshman with 31 or more points.
Multiple Team Milestones
After this past weekend's results, the Falcons reached a number of program milestones. First, the nine wins are the most for AF since reaching 11 back in 1999. The four conference wins are tied for the most for an AF team in MW play all-time (since 1999). Air Force has clinched a winning record, their first since 1999 and fourth all-time. The 31 goals scored as a team are the most since 2001, and the six shutouts are the most since 2012.
Romero the Record Setter
Freshman Lexi Romero also had a record setting weekend, as she tallied her 13th goal and 31st point of the season, to break the AF single-season record for goals and points. Both were set by former All-American Tracy Healy back in 1993 (12 goals and 29 points). In addition, she scored her sixth game winning goal of the season, breaking the previous record of five set in 1994, also by Healy.
Potent Offense
The Falcons so far have presented one of the most potent offenses in the Mountain West Conference. They currently rank first in the MW in points per game and scoring offense, second in total goals and total points, and third in total assists. The Falcons' 31 total goals are the 43rd most in the nation.
MW Tournament Picture
Heading into the final three matches of the regular season, the Falcons control their own destiny when it comes to finishing in the top-six and clinching a spot in the Mountain West Tournament. AF currently has 12 points to sit in solo sixth place. The Falcons are just three points ahead from the next three teams, but are also just six points away from second place. The Falcons are seeking their second MW Tournament appearance in the last three seasons.
