Falcons Edged Out by Boise State, 3-2
10/27/2019 3:32:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The game was tied going into the 85th minute
In a battle between the two top offenses in the conference, the Falcons (10-6-1, 5-5 MW) were out-shot by a 24-11 margin, including 7-4 on goal. The Broncos (16-3, 8-2 MW) also had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Scoring for the Falcons were their two top weapons in junior Jillian Jamero, her seventh of the season, and freshman Lexi Romero, her conference-leading 14th on the year. Both goals were unassisted. In net, junior Danielle Katz made four saves. The Falcons have now scored 34 goals this season, the most since 2000.
The first 15 minutes saw both high powered offenses stifled, despite Boise State rattling off numerous shots. They broke through in the 20th minute with a goal to break the ice. The score looked like it might hold to halftime, before Romero answered with the tying goal in the 42nd minute to tie it at 1-1 into the half.
In the second half, BSU took another lead in the 61st minute, but it was short lived as Jamero took an errant clearing attempt by the Broncos, and buried her shot in the back of the net in the 67th minute to keep it knotted up.
With both teams looking for the go ahead goal, the Broncos were able to find it in the 85th on a long shot in the top left corner. From there, AF didn't have many more opportunities, as they fell just short, 3-2.
The season now comes down to the final game of the season, as the Falcons welcome in rival Colorado College to Cadet Soccer Stadium next Friday, Nov. 1. Kickoff against the Tigers is set for 6 p.m. MT with the Senior Day ceremony to follow.
